KAZGUU team entered the top 100 teams of the world in International Law

The team of JSC KAZGUU University has entered the top 100 teams-winners of the most prestigious tournament of the world in International Law, beating 550 teams from leading foreign universities of 80 countries. It should be noted that this is the most famous competition in International Law carried out since 1960.

Between 27 March and 2 April, 2016 KAZGUU team took part in the international competition – the 57th Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, which was held in English in Washington city, the District of Columbia (the USA). The organizer of this law moot court competition is the International Law Student Association (hereinafter ILSA), operating with the support of the international law firm White & Case.

This year the International Law Moot Court Competition was held 57 times with the participation of more than 550 teams from the best universities representing more than 80 countries. Kazakhstan was represented by KAZGUU University team: Ruslan Burabekov (head of the team) and Ramazan Kokzhalov, the 4th course students majoring in International Law, and also Zarina Temirbulatova, the 3rd course student of the same specialty. The training of the team was carried out by Miras Daulenov, LL.D., Associate Professor of International Law Department with the support of Alberto Pecoraro, the graduate of Edinburgh University (UK).

The team of Universidad de Buenos Aires (Argentina) became the winner of the 57th Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, defeated the team of University of Pennsylvania (US) in the finals. The judges of the final round were Hisashi Owada, Christopher Greenwood and Bruno Simma, the current and former judges of the UNO International Court of Justice.

As a result, the KAZGUU team ranked 90 with 2708 points, confronting the teams of such universities as Peking University (China), American University (US), LUISS Guido Carli (Italy), Kathmandu School of Law (Nepal). Moreover, in the ranking of ILSA the team surpassed the teams of such famous universities as the University Carlos III de Madrid (Spain, ranked 93), Tallinn University School of Law (Estonia, ranked 96); Université de Luxembourg (Luxembourg, ranked 99); Seoul National University (South Korea, ranked 103) and others.

Achieving this result was made possible thanks to the dedicated and well-coordinated work of the KAZGUU University team, as well as thanks to the University management support and, above all, Talgat Narikbayev, Ph.D. in Law, the University Rector.
