At the World Congress of the International Penal and Penitentiary Foundation (IPPF), Azamat Shambilov, a graduate of KAZGUU University, and the regional director of Penal Reform International Central Asia, was appointed Attorney Representative for implementing complex measures and penal reform in the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

According to International Prison Reform Central Asia, ‘this mandate is given to mark outstanding achievements and invaluable contribution to the development and promotion of human rights. Azamat Shambilov has become the first Kazakhstani national in the history of the foundation to be entrusted with such an honourable task’.

The Head of IPPF, Phillip Rapoza, said: ‘We are pleased to appoint Azamat Shambilov, a talented and active human rights advocate from Central Asia who has worked successfully and fruitfully for many years to promote human rights and has made a great contribution to protecting the rights of prisoners, women, and children, and to the fight against torture and other cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment and punishment. The results of his human rights activities are of great importance and serve as the basis for further advancement of human rights, which is why we trust him to be an Attorney Representative of our organisation’.
