Participation in the Thesis Committee meetings of Saint Petersburg State University

S.F. Udartsev, Doctor of Law, Professor, Head of Research Projects on Legal Policy, Constitutional Legislation, and Public Administration (M. Narikbayev KAZGUU University) took part in two thesis committees of St. Petersburg State University.
As is commonly known, after the introduction of autonomy, St. Petersburg State University, as well as M. Lomonosov Moscow State University have the right to independently determine the rules for defending theses, conferring the academic degrees of a candidate of science, Ph.D. doctor, doctor of science and issuing appropriate diplomas. St. Petersburg State University has adopted the regulations according to which for defending each thesis in legal sciences, a separate thesis committee is created, which consists of 5-6 doctors of legal sciences, each of which simultaneously acts as an official opponent and submits a thesis review, which is published on the university’s website. In this regard, such former thesis defense institutes as two or three official opponents and a leading organization have been canceled. Out of the 5-6 members of the thesis committee, two may be from St. Petersburg State University, two from other Russian universities, and 1-2 invited foreign scientists, experts in the field of the defended thesis.
In recent months, Prof. S.F. Udartsev acted as an invited foreign scientist – a member of the thesis committee of St. Petersburg State University on two theses:
1. Valery Vladimirovich Pugachev’s thesis on the topic: ‘Conceptual framework of the political and legal doctrine of Abul A’la Maududi: a critical analysis’ submitted for the degree of candidate of legal sciences in specialty 12.00.01. – Theory and History of Law and State; History of the doctrines of law and state (St. Petersburg, 2019). The thesis of Vasilyeva Natalia Sergeyevna on the topic: ‘The problem of the validity of law in the legal concept of Alfa Ross’ (St. Petersburg, 2019), specialty 12.00.01. – Theory and History of Law and State; History of the doctrine of law and state (legal sciences). Under the quarantine regime, the defense took place online on May 19, 2020.
