Dear students of linguistics, languages and translation studies, You are invited to take part in the annual competition «We are smart» that will be held at M. Narikbayev KAZGUU University, February 28, 2020.

Students are required to:

• Choose one team with 3-5 students of the first or second year from their University;
• apply for participation to a_sarsenbayeva@kazguu.kz, sending full names of the participants, name of the University, contact numbers and e-mails and copies of students’ ID cards;
• submit their application by February 26, 2020;
• be responsible for transport costs, as well as expenses associated with accommodations and meals.

*Each team must be accompanied with the supervisor. 

Competition procedure

Competition “We are smart” consists of three rounds:

Round I – Presenting your team

During his round, teams present their university in English language. Team should demonstrate the uniqueness of its university, as well as show the importance of the English language for its students.

Time limit is 10 minutes.

Round II — Smart game

During the second round, teams are involved in an intellectual game to identify linguistic and regional knowledge of English-speaking countries.

Time limit is 90-120 minutes.

Round III – project task and its presentation

During the third round (60 minutes), the teams are presented with a problem topic. In this round, students demonstrate critical thinking skills to solve assigned tasks. Assessment criteria are presented in Appendix 1 to the letter.

The maximum sore is 40.

Time limit for presentation is 7 minutes

The winner will be awarded according to the number of points, collected during the game.
