M. Narikbayev KAZGUU University hosted the concert of Traditional Portuguese Fado and Kazakh Music devoted to the celebration of the National Day of Portugal and Europe Day 2019 organized by the Embassy of Portugal and the Delegation of the European Union to Kazakhstan.
Fado is incredibly eclectic. It contains the full variety of elements of Mediterranean music – the Greek sirtaki, the Italian tarantella, the Spanish flamenco and fandango, and even the echoes of Moorish melodies. In 2011 fado was added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists.
Chargé d’Affaires of Portugal to the Republic of Kazakhstan Adelino da Silva, The Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Kazakhstan Sven-Olov Carlsson and the Head of KAZGUU International Office Aizhan Kashkenova welcomed the guests and expressed their sincere greetings on this significant occasion.
The Portuguese singers, Chico Madureira and Ana Rita Prada accompanied by Portuguese and classical guitar by Pedro Marquez and Jaime Santos performed at the concert. Moreover, the guests enjoyed listening to traditional Kazakh music performed by the band “Shabyt”. The key program of the evening was the collaborative performance on the traditional portuguese and kazakhstani instruments.
