On May 21, 2020, a Memorandum of Cooperation has been signed between M. Narikbayev KAZGUU University and the Administration of the Constitutional Council.
The Memorandum aims to develop cooperation in the field of training highly qualified legal personnel, creating an employee pool, sharing experience, including through organizing guest lectures, workshops, training, and other forms of interaction.
Besides, it is planned to implement programs to increase the level of legal culture of citizens and implement constitutional values.
While commending the value of the upcoming cooperation, Pen S.G., Provost of M. Narikbayev KAZGUU University, expressed his confidence that joint efforts will contribute to a high-quality level of professional training of KAZGUU students’ practical skills: ‘KAZGUU University and the Constitutional Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan closely cooperate. We have common legal traditions, our faculty includes many members of the Constitutional Council. We very often respond to requests to provide expert opinion and our lawyers’ points of view for constitutional procedures. Moreover, the Constitutional Council is very actively involved in legal education, conducts and initiates contests to promote knowledge of constitutional values and other legislative provisions of our country.’
B. Nurmukhanov, Head of the Administration of the Constitutional Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan, said: ‘This Memorandum will bring our cooperation to a whole new level. This year we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The memorandum involves the deepening of our cooperation in training legal personnel, in the field of propaganda of constitutional values, increasing the level of legal culture of the younger generation and citizens. I think specific projects will be developed within the framework of the Memorandum. I think that in the future students of KAZGUU University may count on employment in the Constitutional Council. In addition, we will attract them to participate in constitutional procedures, in meetings of the Constitutional Council to reinforce their theoretical knowledge in practice. The Constitution is the principal law of the state. The duty of everyone is to know and respect it.’

The pace of modern life makes it impossible to live slowly. Young people are especially in a hurry, as they have a lot to do – to get an education, find a good job, or open a business, to get married. All this takes time, and many people don’t have enough of it. The value of time has increased significantly. Given the realities of the modern world, M. Narikbayev KAZGUU University has created the ‘Bachelor’s Program for High School Students’ so that students could master basic subjects even now.
The program will allow students to finish their university studies earlier than their peers. Students receive knowledge from certified teachers, graduates of the world’s leading universities with great practical experience. This is a good opportunity for a student to plunge into the academic environment, get to know students, and spend time profitably. In the future, upon admission to KAZGUU, the credits taken during this program will be accepted and transferred.
Zhukenova Dilnaz, ‘Psychology in Business’, 11th – grade student, School No. 6, Nur-Sultan: ‘I, Zhukenova Dilnaz, studied at the Pre-Bachelor’s program at KAZGUU University, and this allowed me to understand a lot about the life of higher education institutions, including what kind of profession I want to choose, how students are taught, to feel out student life, traditions, and rules of university life, where I wish to study in the future.
In the process of my study, I liked the teachers – ‘craft professionals’. They did not divide us into the first, second, third, and fourth – year students, they treated everyone the same way, giving us the right to self-expression. Friendly students helped in our studies and were glad to see us as students.
The Pre-Bachelor’s Program is a great opportunity for many students to find out what lies ahead, a great springboard to prepare for a new step in your life. Today, KAZGUU is the only university providing such resources. Providing such an opportunity for high school students, KAZGUU shows that they are happy to accept any young people seeking knowledge!’
Ebengapass Yelnar, ‘Applied Linguistics’, 11th – grade student, School No. 3, Nur-Sultan: ‘Studying under the Pre-Bachelor program, I learned a lot for a few months, got additional knowledge, met new people. Of course, I got the experience of studying at the university, thanks to the teacher who taught me. I think in the future, after graduation, it will be easy for those who studied under this program to join the student body, and there will be no difficulties adapting to the university.’
Kenzhegulov Azat, ‘Entrepreneurship’, KILC College, 3rd year of study, Nur-Sultan: ‘For three months of my studies under the ‘Pre-Bachelor’ program, I learned to be responsible and focused on results.
It was interesting for me to study with freshmen – with smart and hardworking guys. The main advantage of this program is that you can get acquainted with student life much earlier than your peers. Within the program, I chose 3 subjects: Modern History of Kazakhstan, Philosophy, and English. The lessons were intensive and informative. What I liked most of all is the Canvas system, the professionalism of the teachers and, most importantly, the magical atmosphere of KAZGUU.’
Zhylkyshbaeva Aiym, ‘Management’, 11th – grade student, School No. 72, Nur-Sultan: ‘This course has given me a lot. Unlike my peers, I already imagine what it means to be a student. The program of the Pre-Bachelor course exceeded all my expectations. By the end of the course, I realized that I want to get a brilliant education with the M. Narikbayev KAZGUU University.’
The university offers two areas of study:

1) Basic curriculum (general subjects)
2) Main curriculum (major subjects)

University is grateful to the Embassy of India to Kazakhstan for warm collaboration and support.

Happy Constitution Day, India!

On November 13, one of the University’s most dramatic and memorable events took place at the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation – KAZGUU Student Initiation Ceremony. This good tradition is now 23 years old – it was first held in 1996.

As part of the Initiation Ceremony, a traditional competition has been held between the students of KAZGUU Law School and the Higher School of Economics. Out of competition, KAZGUU School of Liberal Arts (the former School of General Education) has successfully made its debut. Next year, the KAZGUU School of Liberal Arts will fully participate along with the Higher School of Economics and KAZGUU Law School.

Preparation for this event brings together all the KAZGUU students since already experienced senior students also do their part and help freshmen in every way. KAZGUU students develop scenarios, prepare the dances, as well as serious and significant projects, manifesting themselves as socially active citizens of our country. ‘Everyone is important’ is the topic of the Initiation Ceremony 2019. Ecology, people, animals are only a small part of the problems that were raised by the initiated students.

This year, the initiated students of the Higher School of Economics have become the winners of the Ceremony.

On November 14, Talgat Narikbayev, Chairman of the Board of ‘M.Narikbayev KAZGUU University’ signed a cooperation agreement with Christophe Bernasconi, Secretary-General of the Hague Conference on Private International Law at the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Kingdom of the Netherlands with the participation of Ambassador Magzhan Ilyasov. The organization includes 82 world countries. Kazakhstan has become its member state in 2017.

After signing the agreement, T. Narikbayev visited the Hague Office and held negotiations on further cooperation.

T. Narikbayev plans to open a representative office of the Conference at KAZGUU University and become its center in Central Asia, to implement its conventions in Kazakhstan, conduct joint research and lectures in the field of Private International Law, and send KAZGUU professors for internships.

Membership and cooperation with this high-profile organization can increase the investment attractiveness of Kazakhstan. Joining the organization has led to an improvement in Kazakhstan’s rating by two positions in the International Doing Business Report.

The Chairman of the Board of ‘M. Narikbayev KAZGUU University’ expresses his gratitude to Magzhan Ilyasov, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Yerbol Nurmakhan, the Embassy employee, and Zhanibek Amanbay, a graduate of KAZGUU University.

As we know the Nauryz word is Persian as Nau – new and ryz – day and translated as a New Day. Due to the fact that word’s roots are Persian people think that the holiday is also Persian. However there is an evidence that Nauryz has Turkic roots.

Prof. Dr. Meting Ekici, Deputy Ambassador of Turkey to UNESCO, is proving that Turkic people have celebrated Nauryz from very long time and called it the New Day. Due to the great migration of the Turkic people from Central Asia to the south-west, Nauryz has been spread among Persians under the New Day name. According to Professor a direct translation of the “Nauryz” word is a well-grounded phenomenon since wthe Persian was used by the Turkic people as a literary language.

Indeed, the spread of Nauryz among the Turks is quite logical. First of all, compared to sedentary Persians the Turks knew well the equinox time. Also, the nomadic Turkic people engaged in animal husbandry knew laws of nature much better and therefore always waited for this day in a special way because they believed that new year starts from Nauryz

Secondly, in Kazakh chronology Nauryz called as the Start of a year (Zhyl basy) and it also proves that Nauryz spread out from Turkic people.

Thirdly, another sign that Nauryz has been celebrated by Kazakhs throughout history is that the Holiday in Kazakh is called as “Ylystyn Uly Kuni”, i.e. “Great Ulus Day”. When almost all Turkic people used the Nauryz Persian word, Kazakh people called it “Great Day of Ulus”.

Fourthly, coincidence of the “Korіsu” holiday, which has been preserved in the western regions of the Country and Nauryz, also proves its wide distribution and ancestral roots.

What is the meaning of the “Ulystyn uly kuni” (“Great Day of Ulus”) phrase? What is the basis of it? At the very beginning, it should be noted that it is the Kazakh meaning of the Nauryz word. The “Ulys” word is rarely used in Kazakh. Therefore, the meaning of this word is understood by no means all. In fact, the “Ulys” (ulus) word is equivalent to the “Halyq” (people) word. Due to the fact that Arabic word “Halyq” (people) has gradually become more common in everyday life, the Persian word “Ulys” eventually went out of words turn. At present, it is still used in the “Ulystyn Uly kuni” phrase.

If we take into account the phenomenon of replacing “s / sh” sounds in the Turkic language with the sound “t” (oshaq = otau, shoshala = toshala, sayaz = tayaz, syqyrlau = tyqyrlau, qilshyq = qyltyq, etc.), then we can prove that and the word “ult” (nation) also comes from the word “ulys”. The ancient Turkic form “ulysh” in the Kazakh language changes first as ulys, then in Kyrgyz as “Ulyt” (ulut), and then supposedly transformed into the form “ult”. The ancient form of “Ulysh” was also in Mongolian. At the time of Genghis Khan, returning from Mongolian, it came in the form of “Ulys” word as a meaning of “state, khanate” words: Chagatai ulus, Juchi ulus, etc. The most interesting thing is that it was included in Russian, and then returned to Kazakhs as a “volost” (region) word. Later on it just transformed to a “bolys” word but the meaning remains the same. Therefore Kazakh has such one rooted words as Ulys, Ult, Bolys but meanings are different.

Recently the work Ult is being actively used while the Ulys form remains only in “Ulystyn Uly Kuni” phrase. In the “Ulys on bolsyn, ak mol bolsyn” (Let the Nation be great and wealthy) Nauryz wish is a wish of well-being to all the people
Thus Nauryz celebrates during the Nauryz month (March) and we’d like it be officially named as “Ulystyn uly mini” (The Great day of Ulus)

Not all have returned back – 924 people died under man-made collapses and bullets of the Mujahideen. Destiny of another 21 people is still not known – they are missing. War brings up. You, students, hold guns in peacetime studying at the Military Department. You study the War by textbooks. Every man should be able to use weapons and at any time to defend his homeland!” said Nuraly Aubakirov, warrior-internationalist, a holder of the Order of the Red Star, performed international duty in Afghanistan from 1981 to 1983. At the end of the story, KAZGUU students were able to ask questions, they asked about details of military operations, destiny of their colleagues, wondered why they chose a military career.

CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62), quality = 90voennaya-kafedra-3-390x260voennaya-kafedra-390x260Military departments exist in almost every major university in Astana city. This form of training allows students to get lieutenant shoulder straps and necessary knowledge without going to army. Colonel Amangeldy IBRAEV, the head of Military department of KAZGUU University, told how students are trained by trained soldiers within the walls of alma mater.

– How long has the Military department been based at KAZGUU University and how many students are enrolled in it?
– It was formed 21 years ago, while the university was still in Almaty. Last year, we celebrated a jubilee, and over the years more than 8,000 people had military training under the program of officers and sergeants of reserve.

Although our work is still more focused on training reserve officers as a mobilization reserve, a certain number of graduates continue military service under the contract. Among them Azamat Zhumadilov, a holder of the “Khalyk Kakharmany” (national hero) title. Training is carried out for two years, and at the moment, 350 people “serve” from among the first and second year students on the basis of the University. In addition, not only students of our University receive Military trainings. On a basis of signed memorandum of understanding students from Nazarbayev University and Kazakh University of Technology and Business also come to our Military department.

About 10 percent of students continue to serve in the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan. Since the university is the Law institution, students serve in police, military prosecutor’s office, and other military structures.
During two years, future lieutenants study a theoretical part, which ends with a practical part – monthly military gathering on a territory of one of the military units. There, cadets practice shooting skills, drive special equipment, practice combat skills. And after all take a military oath.

A student who wants to study at the Military department must go through four stages of selection. The first is a medical commission, if a cadet is fit for service for health reasons, then he goes to the next round. The second stage is psychological testing, which is conducted in special computer classes under the program of the Ministry of Defense. The third stage – physical condition testing, it includes running at 100 and 3000 meters and pulling up by the number of times. The last stage – students stidy progress. For all the tests student receives points, and first best 90 people get to the “service” under the grant.

From last year, women can now also get a shoulder strap. At the end of this academic year, 27 female lieutenants will receive military ranks. According to Amangeldy Ibraev, girls more distinguished, self-controled, in terms of discipline and diligence can give better than male fellow students. And even show commander skills.
For example, group A-24 is commanded by Zhanerke Kumshayeva, the frail-looking female student. According to her, sheis very much interested at further service in the ranks of the Ministry of Defense.

11First of all the Civil society is people, people who care of a country and what’s going on with it. Those people are patriots who wish to contribute for everybody’s better life.

A role of a family, kindergarten, secondary schools and universities is fundamental, when it comes to the Civil Society’s formation. Everything starts in the family when we parents, grandparents influence our kids with said words and done actions. A child starts to lie because we show in our everyday life that it is ok to do so. For example, when our land line is ringing we ask a kid to answer and tell that we are not at home showing that it is allowed to lie, sometimes. We say not to use a cell phone but can’t leave it ourselves.

What’s next, kindergarten where we give presents to tutors meaning they would take better care of our child and kids realize that it is possible to solve all issues through material gifts. In a secondary school some pupils start cheating and it is ok when grading is going on and kids understand that teachers have favourable students or it might be their parents’ social status or gifts that helped with studies.

Classmates usually influence a behavior of children so that they smoke, use inappropriate words and so on. Thus, a certain behavioral coolness among students is determined.

During preparation for the UNT testing, there are cases when teachers teach children to write cheat sheets, hide phones to get high results. In universities, in addition to above mentioned, students are often involved as accomplices of deception (cheating, buying essays, theses and plagiarism). In addition, there are cases when they themselves engage in corrupt activities, bribing teachers and staff for good grades. In such cases, trained to be deceitful, unqualified students are fill jobs in accordance with their specialties.

Damir Shynybekov, the rector of the International University of Information Technologies says: We all know that dynamic changes are taking place in the modern World, which also affect the sphere of education. Along with the modernization of education in the states, there is a growing awareness of the role of the Civil Society in this process. For example, such characteristics of the Civil Society as humanization of social relations, promotion of democratic values, achievement of social unity both at the level of individual regions and countries depend on a successful implementation of continuous education strategy (lifelong learning) from kindergarten to university on a global level.

3I have read a lot of interesting things about India in the Jungle book by the English author Rudyard Kipling and watched amazing animated movies and famous Bollywood filmes since my childhood. In consequence, visit in India became one of my dreams.

In this year, on september, my dream come true, to realize it helped me the scholarship of International technical and economic cooperation (ITEC) programme which sponsored by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. I participated in the course Progress to Proficiency (in English) at the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), University was founded in 1958, Hyderabad, India.

The EFL University has 7 schools and 26 Departments. There are also research programmes, apart from graduate, postgraduate in this University. Campus has all facilities such as hostels, health center, canteen, gym, and library. The pride of the University is the Ramesh Mohan library. The entire collection of 167 000 books and back volumes have been automated and the same can be accessed with the help of OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) within the library.

The course included three months studying subjects such as listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, presentation skills and prononcuation. The teachers were leading professional in English language, they are certified IELTS experts.

During the course I could improve my English through daily speaking with my friends from of Africa, South Asia, South East Asia, Central Asia, and Latin America. It was a really good opportunity to learn about the culture of different nations around the world. And it is very sad to recognize that the most of them I will never meet again.

ITEC gave me great opportunity to visit a country like India and see a civilization that is over 3,000 years old. I found Indian people very kind, helpfuul and they have an ingenuous smile. ITEC coordinators made to feel us like at home and India became my second home.

5123467On the eve of the Day of the First President at the M. Narikbayev KAZGUU University the Center for the History of Kazakhstan and Ruhani Zhangyru of the General Education School together with the “Sóz cara” Club under the guidance of Ms. Gulbarahin R. Kylyshbai, an Honored Art Worker staged “Kerey-Janibek” that is based on the Ramazan Duman drama. Two epochs met in the hall: heroes of the XV century were sitting with serious faces, on the contrary students of the XXI century as an audience. The heroes of the drama were sitting in one half of the hall – on their faces anxiety, despair. They are in their own time, in character. Someone is quietly talking, other people express pain, others discuss plans. Audience, on the contrary, are excited. And here’s the beginning! The 15th century epoch is becoming clearer. The game of students is fascinating, the audience empathizes and invisibly, mentally moving to the part of the hall where the action takes place. It seems that the first part of the hall has expanded imperceptibly, and the audience is gradually drawn into the events of those times. The spoken words seem to unwittingly express feelings of guests, and it feels that they are all together and demanding justice from Khan Abulkhair, and decide to unite. Here are doubts about rightness of a decision, an expression of mistrust, disputes are also going down. But mostly people follow the Kerey and Janibek sultans into the Zheruiyq lands found by Asan Qaigy. Picture of moving from the inhabited places gets inside the blood. Huge white canvas (symbolically the color of the beginning, purity) turned into the tent of the left alone khan, then it turned into a heavy, but native, burden. This personified hope for the future and demonstrated that nomads take with them only the most important, dear to them things. Succession …, connection with the past. The birth of a child in a new place was marked as a good omen – yrym. “Qazaq is your name, Qazaq is your name, Qazaq is your name!” Says Asan Qaigy. Others understand it as “You are free!”. The Council of Elders decides that the Khanate will be called “Kazak handygy”, and people will be called Kazakhs and will be united Kazakh population. Both halves of the hall are also united. Like in the 15th century, but now in the 21st century, everyone is chanting, “Qazaq!” Qаzаq!”.
Applause are heared in the hall! What was it? Love for the Fatherland? Pride in their ancestors, who managed to fulfill their dreams? The desire to be like them? Dreams to contribute to society?

Yes, all these emotions were on the audiences faces. And, most importantly, it was seen the confidence that they can do it and will do it. And all this united collective in the hall was now took over by the guests: Deputy of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Available Tasbulatov,, Lieutenant-General and Mr. Mukhamedzhan Tazabekov an honored art worker. The audience with bated breath listened to the patriotic, ardent words of Mr. Tasbulatov, calling to love and take care of the Fatherland, the foundations of which were laid and defended by our ancestors And the penetrating speech of Mr. Tazabekov, calling for high morality, purity of relationships, spiritual revival. There was no indifferent person, students left the place being either joyful, or thoughtful.

As it is known, the history of M. Narikbayev KAZGUU University starts in March 1994. At the dawn of the era of Independence, a young country was in dire need of highly qualified legal specialists who were able not only to develop conceptual state regulatory acts, but also to implement it.

In this difficult period of reforms and the emergence of a new state, the country’s leadership made a strategic far-sighted decision to establish a specialized law institute on the basis of the Ministry of Justice. During an existence of the University, more than 30 thousand personnel worked in various fields of activity both in the country and abroad were trained. Every year, organization of a meeting of graduates in their beloved Alma Mater, where they can speak in an open area, share their experience with university students, has been accepted as a good tradition.

Provost of the M. Narikbayev KAZGUU university has congratulated KAZGUU graduates, gathered on this day from all over Kazakhstan and abroad. He has highlighted “the high contribution of graduates to the development of legal sphere of the Country, as well as to the development of the University itself.” Mr. Marat B. Beketayev, the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, an honorary guest of this event has graduated from KAZGUU in 1998. In his speech, Mr. Beketayev noted that KAZGUU University gives a strong education to the current generation of students, saying that he had recently attended Moot court, where two teams participated, and one of them was the KAZGUU team.

The Minister was pleasantly surprised with team’s knowledge and ability to speak on English, and stressed that these students will be able to work in such a significant International center as the AIFC, highlighted an importance of training strong specialists for the full-fledged work of this Center. Also Mr. Beketayev addressed the current lawyers and graduates of KAZGUU: “… on November 23 there will be the Conference of Lawyers, first after the adoption of a new law. I would like to see all the lawyers and say: when you would take an important decision at that Conference, do not forget, you make a decision not only for yourself, for the board of lawyers, but also for the Country, for people and for our children.”

The final and spiritual part of the Event has become a placing the capsules of desires of 1998 graduates for the Alma Matter, which they can open after 20 years

That is, the principles of artificial intelligence are involved in this function, ”the press service of the university reports. Currently, Canvas is used by more than 3,000 universities, educational institutions and millions of people around the world, including leading universities like Harvard, Yale, University of Pennsylvania, Northwestern University, Berkeley, Brown, Columbia Business School, Chicago Booth and others. “After another trip of Mr. Narikbayev to a foreign university, in order to exchange experience, we got acquainted with a system that allows to immerse a student and a teacher in an online educational environment, calls LMS Canvas. This platform is a product of American developers and the company has about 4,000 partners worldwide. After a long study and analysis, we came to the conclusion that this platform has a number of competitive advantages and that it satisfies needs of a modern university, which aims to provide high-quality and modern education, ”said Sarman Tuleubaev, head of the Distance Learning Department. The new system has also a mobile application that allows users to download a task directly from the phone. Most importantly, it is possible to create a virtual online environment. My name is Yeldana. I am the 4th year student of translation studies department. In 2017 I’ve got an opportunity to go to Anyang University, South Korea as an exchange student within the academic mobility programme. Assel Murat with Deborah Sherry, Senior Vice President, Chief Commercial Officer GE Digital, Europe

Assel Murat with Deborah Sherry, Senior Vice President, Chief Commercial Officer GE Digital, Europe

I applied for GE internship in the April, 2017 and received an invitation for interview. I chose GE because it’s a great opportunity to get work experience while still being a student, it’s a paid internship and it offers flexible working hours.  Interviewing process includes three steps: a screening interview from talent acquisition team in Moscow, interview with a Human Resources representative and meeting with a manager of the business you are applying for. After successful interview, I received a job offer for a paid internship for eight months.   My duties included to represent innovational GE technologies at EXPO-2017 and to help GE legal department.

Internship was useful for me as an individual. My internship at GE taught me many things. One of the main principles here is meritocracy meaning that employees are rewarded entirely based on their ability and talent.  I gained new knowledge about future energy projects from different international pavilions and efficient digital solutions for energy industry provided by GE too. Being at the GE booth at the American Pavilion at the EXPO 2017 taught me how to promote creative ideas, represent a big multinational company and interact with visitors. Moreover, it was interesting for me to meet different people from all around the world, because I could learn something new from them. For example, my English level improved dramatically by being around English speakers which is very important for me in my future career as a lawyer.

When it comes to the internship at GE office, everyone at GE will be ready to help out. If I don’t know something, I can ask for help. That’s how I have been finding answers for my questions. For instance, I have never dealt with commercial contracts between companies, but at GE I learnt how to do that following all necessary policies and procedures. I learnt the basics of business writing, business etiquette and learnt a ton about legal issues. It was such a great experience for me, because I dealt with a delivery of confidential documents, organized business meetings, filled necessary documents out and went through the formal procedures at notary. I was also a part of the project on providing legal and compliance updates to the employees of the company.

To conclude, GE internship is a good opportunity for every student to develop as a future specialist and as an individual. Things like meeting interesting people who you can make friendship with and learning from them, discovering new opportunities, building professional connections, getting work skills, knowledge and experience, organizing business events, making effective phone calls, working on interesting projects, learning on how to be creative and make me motivated to achieve my dreams and professional goals. All mentioned things made me feel a part of something important. I enjoyed my internship and I firmly believe that I will know a lot of things after my internship ends.

According to the data of the national report on the state of the development of the system of education, which was also confirmed by the State Centre for Benefit Payments and the Information and Analytic Centre of the Ministry of Education and Science of RK, demand for the specialists in the field of humanities trained at KAZGUU University is 88%.  We are only behind KBTU, which dominates the technical field.

The lowest percentages of employment in the year following graduation, are shown by: International Humanitari-Technical University (44.5%), University of Foreign Languages and Business Career (43%), “Astana” University (42%), and Pavlodar State University (31%).

The high demand for graduates is an indication of the quality of the educational services provided at the univeristy.  Throughout its history, KAZGUU has maintained its leading position in one of the most important criteria in education – the quality of graduates.  This is supported not only by the high evaluation given to our university by the international and national accreditation agencies, but, which is even more important, by the companies who do not hesitate to employ young specialists with a degree from KAZGUU.

For example, 20% of the staff of the Prosecutor General’s office today are graduates of our university.  This is the highest employment rate at the supervisory body among the graduates of all universities in Kazakhstan.  Every fifth prosecutor in the country holds a degree from KAZGUU.

Thus, the strategic policy of the University is founded on the main principle – to provide a high-level professional competence for graduates, a status that is to be confirmed by national and international employers.

Second-year KAZGUU students of Law Enforcement Syrym Beysembekov and Altyn Zeynulla send their greetings to KAZGUU and talk about their impressions of studying at the Russian Academy of Lawyers and Notaries (Moscow) under the academic mobility programme.

_MG_1800Syrym Beysembekov:

“I am a second-year Law Enforcement student.  At the moment, I am studying at RALN under the academic mobility programme in Moscow.

First, I would like to express my gratitude to the management team of the Higher School of Law, B. Askarova and other members of the International Department for this opportunity.

Similarity of the two countries’ legislatures, a leading position of the Russian Federation in almost all sectors in the Eurasian continent, and a genuine interest in the Russian culture defined my choice.

The university campus is located near the capital’s main landmarks.  The linear system of education is exceptional.  Highly qualified teaching staff, opportunities to participate in research conferences organised by the university itself and the capital’s other universities, and opportunities to attend elective courses to develop professional skills – all of these reassured me that I had made the right choice.  I especially liked the fact that the teachers devote a lot of attention to the practical aspects, thus, reinforcing the theoretical knowledge acquired in class.

What are the benefits of taking part in this programme?  First, this is a great chance to fulfil myself as a person.  Being here, thousands of kilometres away from home, you realise what you are really worth.  Second, you meet a lot of people, which develops your communication skills.  Third, you acquire experience that will sooner or later have an effect on your personal development.  And fourth, you will have an advantage in employment.

I encourage all the students of our university to take part in this programme!”

IMG_4247-10-03-17-09-39

Altyn Zeynulla:

“The RALN academy is famous for their highly qualified teachers who are great at their job and present the material in a way that is accessible to the students.  I am also fortunate with my classmates who are fun and outgoing guys, and I have never been bored.

In general, I like it here very much.  In the beginning, it was hard and I was homesick and missed KAZGUU, but now I don’t regret coming here, as I think this is a great experience that will help me in the near future.”

A 2nd-year student of Law Enforcement, Zhaniye Tulenbayeva, is to spend her 2016-2017 spring semester at Seoul National University, Republic of Korea, under the academic mobility programme.  Seoul University is the largest and the most well-known university in South Korea, and is located in Seoul.  The University occupies the 50th place in the 2010 international university rating.  We would like to wish Zhaniye Tulenbayeva success in her studies!

The international department is honoured to inform that four citizens of Kazakhstan got an opportunity to study in the USA and take part in the 5-week programme of the US Studies Institute for Students “Women and leadership”.  Out of four students, two are from KAZGUU University: Zhanna Latysheva (Translation studies, 3rd year) and Ayim Sabyrova (International Law, 3rd year); they will go to the USA in June 2017.  We congratulate our students on this high achievement.  Al the expenses related to the programme are covered by the US Embassy.

This news was announced at the meeting organised by the RK Agency for Civil Service and Anti-Corruption Enforcement, titled “Building the culture of zero tolerance for corruption in the system of higher education”, which was attended by members of RK Parliament, representatives of the RK MOS, deputy heads of regional governments, and heads of higher education institutions.

At the moment, KAZGUU University has all the necessary conditions to completely eradicate corruption.  Kazakhstan’s leading law school has been engaged in consistent practices of preventing corruption among the teaching staff and the students.

The anti-corruption efforts at KAZGUU University have been focused on three main areas: effective staff management, effective student assessment, and regular feedback.

For example, KAZGUU University has been one of the first universities in Kazakhstan that launched a Citizen Service Centre.  CSC’s work is aimed at developing information openness and transparency of the educational process, building a culture of mutual respect, eradicating corruption factors.

In his speech at the meeting, Talgat Narikbayev, the rector of KAZGUU University, talked about a complex of preventive measures directed at stopping corruption, including the introduction of academic integrity values.

He noted that “the principled stance of the university on fighting corruption, on the one hand, significantly reduces the number of poorly performing students, and, on the other hand, through the implementation of the rating system of evaluation, allows to improve the quality of the teaching staff.

An agreement was reached at the meeting to promote the efforts in building a culture of zero tolerance towards corruption.  In particular, a decision was made to hold an anti-corruption marathon that will start at KAZGUU University.

I feel happy for the students who chose KAZGUU.  Studying at this university is not only a way to receive quality education and a big step toward a successful career, but also an opportunity to express yourself, starting from school.  I am convinced that today the University has become an even better environment: a beautiful and modern building, located in the capital; lectures given by famous people and competent specialists; and high-quality management.  Well-employed graduates of the university clearly illustrate the fact that KAZGUU maintains its reputation as the best in Kazakhstan.

We continue our column “International Students’ Life”, which specially prepared by KAZGUU International Department.  This time our guest is Magdalena Anna Kaźmierczak, a master’s student at KAZGUU.

This is an interview with her, where you can find a lot of interesting facts from the life of an international student from Poland.

  1. Where are you from (country, town)?

I am from Poland where I have lived in many places but my favorite one is Wroclaw.

  1. When did you first come to KAZGUU and submit your application?

I applied to KAZGUU in August 2016

  1. What is your major and year of study?

I am a first-year master’s degree student in International Law

  1. How did you learn about KAZGUU?

It was not difficult to hear about KAZGUU.  This university is one of the best in Kazakhstan so people talk about it and recommend it to friends.

  1. How do you spend your leisure time?

I spend my free time doing many different things. I enjoy hanging out with friends, reading about travelling and mountains, and planning new trips.

  1. What are your favorite books and films?

It is difficult to name just one favorite film or book. I have many favorite books from childhood that I like to come back to, such as Harry Potter.  As for films, I enjoy those with Meryl Streep. I admire her because not only is she a great actor, but she can also use the fact that she is famous to change the world for the better. Her statements about women’s position in the world encourage real strength and spread beautiful ideas.

  1. What are you planning to do after graduating?

After graduation I would like to find a job in politics or diplomacy.

  1. What was your first impression about KAZGUU?

I was really impressed when I first arrived in Astana and I saw this building. It was so huge and monumental, I thought it may be a residence of someone very important because it looks very nice.

  1. Could you please describe 3 main differences or similarities between Kazakhstan and your country?

Three differences can be found quite easily because we have totally different climate. I am freezing during the winter here! Another thing that I cannot get used to is that it is difficult for a vegetarian to live in Kazakhstan. Everyone eats meat here! A couple of times, I even thought about a tasty shashlyk chicken, but I didn’t break! . The third difference is the people. I love the variety and I enjoy the fact that in Kazakhstan there is mix of cultures, races and languages and there are no conflicts between people!

Three similarities: 1) In both Poland and Kazakhstan there are beautiful mountains where I enjoy hiking!  2) People in both countries are spreading positive energy and are very kind. 3) Both Kazakhstani and Polish people love winter sports. Your Universiade was a great example. I truly congratulate you, it was a great event!

  1. Was it hard for you to integrate into the Kazakhstani society? Were you shocked by anything?

It was hard in the beginning.  As I have already said, I am a vegetarian and it was quite difficult to start living in a country of meat lovers.  Nevertheless, people were very helpful and I felt support all the time even though I didn’t speak Russian then.

  1. Do you have any favorite places in Astana? List three places.

I do have a few favorite places in Astana. I do enjoy going to the opera. I think it is a unique place and a very beautiful building. The next place I like is the Central park.  In winter, I go cross-country skiing there and I like to walk in summer. And the last but not least is the library at KAZGUU. It is such a peaceful place! I enjoy studying there and I recommend it to everyone  .

Corvinus University in Budapest is one of the best schools of Europe.  The Economics Department has been hosting our students under the academic mobility programme for three years.  The students have always given highly positive comments: the infrastructure, library, and teachers are among the strengths of our partner university.

There is no doubt that Budapest itself dazzles with its beauty and openness to young people from all over the world.  Below are the first impressions of Gulsaya Tatiyeva, a 3rd-year student of Economics.  We wish Gulsaya Tatiyeva and Kundyz Imanbayeva success in their studies at Corvinus University.

“Budapest is a very beautiful city with outstanding architecture and magnificent bridges that connect the two historical parts of the city.  Literally everywhere you go, you can see various sculptures and architectural landmarks.  In short, we fell in love with the city!  There are a lot of students here from different parts of the world.”

Dear students,

The Department of International office continues to tell you about our international students in the International students’ life at KAZGUU column.  Today we meet Fayez Najib from Kabul, Afganistan, a 1st-year student of Finance.

  1. What was your first impression about KAZGUU University?

– When I first came here, I saw KAZGUU University’s building with very unique and classical style of architecture which looked very interesting to me.

  1. Could you please describe three main differences or similarities between Kazakhstan and your country?

– 1. The weather in Afghanistan is almost the same as in Kazakhstan: we also have four seasons.  But our winter is not as cold as it is in Astana.

– 2. We have similar food like Manto, Palo (plov), and we also have similarities in culture.  For example, before starting dinner, we wait for everyone to come.  However, there are some big differences between Kazakhstan and Afghanistan in terms of cultural dress and dance.

  1. You are one of the first international students to take part in the KAZGUU Student Initiation ceremony, and your school won a cup at Initiation.  How did you feel about that?  And what can you say about this event in general?

When I first decided to join this competition, I had no idea what it was about; I only knew that there would be a dance.  I have been interested in dancing since my school years, so that’s why I decided to join the competition.  It was very challenging for me because I didn’t know Russian, while everybody there was speaking Russian.  It was a great opportunity for me to improve my Russian, which really helped me!  But some of the 2nd-, 3rd-, and 4th-year students tried to help me and explained everything in English.  Not only did it help my language skills, but I also found some great friends there.  When we won the cup, I was feeling very happy.  I can’t explain the feeling – it was the results of two months’ hard work.  In general, all I can say is that it is a very interesting and exciting journey that helps first-year students to find friends and communicate with other people.  It makes the university environment more comfortable for new students.

  1. Was it hard for you to integrate into the Kazakhstani society?  Were you shocked by anything?

– It was not so easy for me to get used to the Kazakh society!  I was at first shocked to find that most people never smile here, everyone I see or try to have a conversation with, are always in bad mood!  Sometimes, they don’t want to even talk to you))  However, I don’t judge them because they might have their own problems).

  1. Do you have any favorite places in Astana?

– Sky beach club in Khan Shatyr.  Samal riverside is a very good place for jogging and hanging out, especially in summer.  And the Central park is also one of the places I find exciting.

The Director of the KAZGUU Institute for Civil Law Research, Professor Tolesh Erdenovich Kaudyrov, DLS, has taken part in a meeting of the Working Group on redistribution of power among the branches of government.  The meeting took place yesterday in Akorda and was chaired by the President of Kazakhstan, N. Nazarbayev.

During the meeting, the Head of State noted that the issue of redistribution of power among the branches of government is a next logical step in the development of the Republic.

According to Tolesh Kaudyrov, a member of the Working Group, the most important in this redistribution is, for each branch of government, to leave all the consistent powers intact, but remove the contradictory ones.  He believes that this can be achieved in two ways: correcting the existing legislature and amending the constitution.  Doubtless, these will be significant amendments.  Such Presidential functions as maintaining the unity of the branches, securing independence, and other functions related to these, must remain with the President.  Everyday work related to organisational activities will be assigned to the Government, the Parliament, and local executive power.

I am a 2nd year student of Law at KAZGUU University.  I came to Kazakhstan from Moscow.

There were several reasons why I chose to study at a specialised law university in Kazakhstan.  First, Russian and Kazakhstani legislation law are identical in many ways.  And second, Kazakhstan has always been at the centre of attention of the world community, including my own countrymen.  This is why I am interested in looking at the process of the development of the country from within.  And, of course, this is a new experience.  KAZGUU attracted me by its modernity, and the students’ reviews of the quality of education and teaching.  Besides, the programme of developing the human resources for the legal sphere is different from that of the Academy (Russian Academy of Lawyers and Notaries), and I got an excellent opportunity to gain a wider range of knowledge.

The University is beautiful, modern, and spacious.  I really liked the comfortable and technically equipped classrooms.  The teachers share their knowledge from their heart, and I haven’t yet seen a sign of dry and formal approach.  I am convinced that the knowledge I acquired here will help me in my future professional career.

In order to increase the efficiency of the learning process, KAZGUU University is conducting a planned assessment of teachers’ results in the report period.  According to practice, this approach promotes higher quality in education.

First of all, the current ranking system is aimed at incentivising the teachers and raising KAZGUU’s status in the educational space.  Rankings motivate teachers to develop their skills; raise their level of professionalism; and promote research, methodological and organisational initiatives.  This, in general, has a positive effect on the quality of the graduates and their professional qualification.

One of the brightest students of KAZGUU, Danabek Kurmantaev, graduated from the university in 1998.  He studied at the Judiciary Department.  His son Eldos Kurmantay followed in the footsteps of his father, and did not hesitate to choose KAZGUU to continue his education after graduating from secondary school.  Now Eldos is a student at the Law Department.

Danabek is a supporter of highly specialised education.  He believes that legal professionals should be trained at specialised universities, where they can get all the knowledge necessary for their job. Thus, when the family council sat to discuss the future place of study for Eldos, a member of the next generation, the decision was unanimous.

Currently Danabek is working in the regional subsidiary of JSC “KazMunaiGas” as the head of HR.  Prior to this, he spent many years serving at the law enforcement agencies and in the banking system.

According to Danabek, one of the aims for obtaining a high-quality legal education is, first of all, to apply the knowledge acquired at university to further the development of Kazakhstan and its people.  Every day graduates of the university demonstrate their high potential and level of professional competence, whatever field they work in.  And it is the most essential factor that KAZGUU has been and remains to be an important foundry of talent.
